Stephen Byrne - Yin Introductions, Bunbury
February 17th-18th
Yin Yoga:
Yin yoga is a quiet and contemplative practice that tailors to the individual. Postures are held for minutes at a time as the practitioner subtly adjusts their alignment towards a deep opening. The nature of Yin yoga is a perfect complement to more vigorous Yang yoga styles (Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Iyengar, etc.) as we find peace in stillness.
This practice is suitable for complete beginners, who will find it a gentle introduction to physical yoga practice, right up to the most advanced practitioner, who can seek great depths of physical practice and meditative observation.
About Stephen:
Stephen was introduced to yoga at the age of 16 and immediately felt a connection to the benefits of yoga. After some years of exploring the practice he dedicated himself to the traditional system of Ashtanga Yoga, traveling to Mysore, India in 2006 to practice with Guruji (Pattabhi Jois) and returning regularly to practice with Sharath Jois.
Stephen complements his Ashtanga practice with Yin Yoga. He has completed Yin Yoga & Anatomy - Teacher Training with Paul Grilley and is currently a student of Physiotherapy at Curtin University, experienced in working with injuries in a Yoga context.
Friday Night (6-8pm) - Yin Yoga Introductory Workshop:
The workshop series begins with an interactive introduction to the practice of Yin yoga. We will explore the comparative nature of the practice and its relationship to traditional yoga forms. Underlying principals of Yin practice will be developed while engaging in this holistic, restorative practice.
Saturday Early (7-9am) - Yin Yoga Hip Series & Tea/Talk:
The mornings practice will focus on the most significant Yin sequence; Hips. The grounding nature of Yin yoga, along with its lengthy holds, are well suited to encouraging greater range in the hip. Being one of the most bound areas of the body, both physically and energetically, participants can expect to learn techniques to deliver great benefit for yoga practice and daily life.
The morning session will conclude with a discussion on Yin origins and theory, over a cup of tea.
Saturday (12-2pm) - Yin Yoga Spine Series:
Concluding the workshop series will be a class focused on Yin spine sequencing. This sequencing of postures will be directed towards the mobility of the entire spine. Suitable for those with general backaches or those seeking their heels in backbends, the Yin spine sequence offers all an opportunity to energise and calm their physical and energetic bodies.
Time & Dates:
February: 17th -18th
Cost:
$40/Workshop or $100/all three workshops
