Pre Natal Yoga Teacher Training - Next course July 30th - August 1st

During the pre and post natal period women need special attention in their yoga practice in order to guide them through this transition. Our Pre, Post Natal and Yoga for Actice Birth training courses are for Yoga teachers wishing to deepen their knowledge of the relationship between yoga, pregnancy, Active Birth and the post natal period. These courses are registered with the Yoga Teachers Association and students receive 25 CPD (Continuing Education Points).

Course Trainer

Dr Jean Byrne:
Dr Jean Byrne is an authorised Ashtanga Yoga teacher (AYRI Mysore) and a Senior Member of the Yoga Teachers Association of Australia, who specialises in the teaching of Pregnancy Yoga, Yoga for Active Birth and Post-Natal Yoga. She has taught pregnant women yoga for over 10 years, practiced yoga throughout her pregnancy and used yoga and meditation techniques to deliver her baby boy drug and intervention free in 2007. More recently she has been facilitating Active Birth and Preparation for Parenting workshops and preparing women emotionally, physically and spiritually for pregnancy and birth through the use of yoga and breath awareness.

Dr Jean Byrne trains pregnancy and post-natal yoga teachers in Perth, Singapore and Malaysia. She has a keen interest in women's experience of yoga practice and has a PhD from the University of Queensland. She has lectured at the University of Western Australian, University of Queensland and Bond University in Eastern Philosophy. Currently her research focues on yoga, women's spirituality and the breath in the relationso to pregnancy and birth. She will be presenting a paper on this topic at the conference 'The Mother and History: Past and the Present' to be held this July at the University of Queensland. Jean writes for Australian Yoga Life, www.yogainasia.com and is co-editor of Yoga in the Modern World: Contemporary Perspectives (Routledge 2008). In 2009 Jean, her hsuband Rob and son Jamie spent a total of 4 months continuing their study of Ashtanga Yoga in India.

 

Certification

Yoga for Pregnancy

Pregnancy. It's a miraculous process of self-discovery and learning. It's a time of physical, emotional and spiritual transformation. And it's a time when the practice of yoga matters deeply as it affects the life of the pregnant woman and her unborn child. This 25-hour course provides an overview of yoga and meditation practice throughout the pregnancy, birth and post-natal stages with a focus on yoga and meditation for different stages of pregnancy. Cost for Teacher Training $440, including course manual.

Course Objectives

The course will help you to:

  • Learn the relationship between the practice of yoga and woman's life cycle.
  • Understand the medical and cultural context, both past and present, of pregnancy and childbirth.
  • Understand the physical and emotional changes of mother and baby during pre- and post-natal stages.
  • Learn how to teach healthy pregnant women yoga practices appropriate to their stage of pregnancy.
  • Understand the common complaints, contraindications and conditions during pregnancy, and how to adapt your teaching safely.
  • Understand how the teaching of yoga can help women to have a conscious, active and better birthing experience, so you can empower your students to birth consciously.
  • Learn and implement Optimal Foetal Positioning as it applies to yoga asana in your yoga classes.
  • Deliver interesting, informative and fun pregnancy and post-natal yoga classes.

Pre requisites

Applicants need

  • To be dedicated to the practice of yoga.
  • To either be yoga teachers, yoga teacher trainees or health care professionals wishing to know more about the benefits of pregnancy yoga.
  • To be women. Pregnancy yoga classes are classes which are women focused and centred. Men can teach great pregnancy classes, but we belive for pregnancy yoga to be a transformative experience leading women to discovering their power as women and mothers classes need to be facillitated by women.

July Course Info

  • $440 Including intensive, class observations, training manual, morning and afternoon tea.
  • July 30th 6-9pm, July 31st 10:30am-6pm, August 1st 10:30-5pm.
  • To be held at The Yoga Space, 1251 Hay St West Perth.
  • Deposit of $200 to secure your place, with remainder ($240) payable within 4 weeks of deposit.

Post-Natal Yoga Teacher Training

The post-natal period in a woman's life is a time in which she needs to focus on her physical, spiritual and emotional wellbeing, as her well being is central to that of her new born baby's wellbeing. Post-natal yoga classes honour the experiences of mothers in this time of transition and learning as well as empower women to connect with their own beliefs and values regarding mothering. Post-natal yoga also offers a holistic form of exercise for women specifically focused on the needs of the post-natal women, including pelvic and abdominal reconditioning and back and neck problems arising from pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Course Objectives

  • To understand the specific physical and emotional changes for women in the post-natal period.
  • To understand how different birth experiences will impact upon the post-natal yoga practice of individual women.
  • To understand baby development in the early post-natal period.
  • To learn specific asanas and exercises for reconditioning the pelvic floor and abdominal muscles.
  • To understand the social context of mothering.
  • To learn about Mothering with Mindfulness and how you can integrate mindfulness techniques into your post-natal classes.
  • To enable teachers to teach women how to involve their babies in their yoga practice.
  • To learn how to accommodate women with young children who are also pregnant in post-natal classes.
  • To enable yoga teachers to deliver dynamic and fun post-natal classes for women and their babies.
