Course Description
Yoga Therapy is the art and science of applying yogic principles to enhance wellbeing, overcome illness and live a healthier and more meaningful life. Being a Yoga Therapist is a rewarding career whereby we can assist our students beyond just asana and pranayama and help them become well grounded in yogic lifestyle, diet and the therapeutic use of yoga both preventatively and to overcome illness. Yoga Therapy is a growing field of complementary health care, which in Australia is largely governed by the not-for-profit Australian Association of Yoga Therapists (AAYT), an organization which sets Yoga Therapy training standards and registers Yoga Therapists.
This Graduate Program is one of the few graduate Yoga Therapy courses available in Australia which is registered with the AAYT. This course is suitable for yoga teachers and practitioners with an interest in the therapeutic application of yoga in a clinical setting. Yoga therapists are skilled at assessing and prescribing treatment protocols within the yogic framework. They may utilise their skills in small group settings or in one to one therapeutic settings. This course brings together the therapeutic indications and techniques given in classical yoga texts with the latest in yoga therapy research and evidence based practices from other health professions.
The course is co ordinated by Dr Jean Byrne and Chandrika Gibson and includes presentations by psychologist Rob Schutze.
Course Delivery
The course is structured in three modules.
Module One: Mind Body Wellness: Evidence Base, Theory & Practice
Module Two: Anatomy & Physiology: Theory and Therapeutic Applications
Module Three: Professional & Clinical Practice

Graduate Outcomes

Graduates will also be able to offer Yoga Therapy in group sessions, register with the AAYT and be well placed to begin clinical practice knowing they have completed Industry Standard training (recognised by Yoga Australia).
Registration with AAYT
In order to become registered with the AAYT you will need to complete the 3 modules, pass all assessments and have 3 years of general yoga teaching completed at the time of applying for registration.
