Holistic Management of Pelvic Pain

Oct 01, 2026

By Dr Jean Byrne, Senior Yoga Teacher (E-RYT 500)

Living with endometriosis or persistent pelvic pain can affect every part of life, from sleep and energy to mood, work and relationships. In this talk, Dr Jean Byrne speaks to women at an event organised by Luma: Women's Health, introducing holistic strategies to support pain management alongside medical care.

In this talk

  • What is pelvic pain? An introduction to persistent pelvic pain, including endometriosis-related pain, and how it can affect both body and mind.
  • Misogyny in women's health research: how women's health, and women's pain in particular, has historically been under-researched and under-funded.
  • The myth of psychogenesis: the long-standing idea that women's pain is "all in their head", and why it has delayed diagnosis and care for so many women.
  • Mindfulness, yoga and self-compassion as self-management strategies: practical, whole-person approaches that can be used alongside medical care to support pain management and wellbeing.

Healing Hatha for pelvic pain

Our Healing Hatha class was designed with pelvic pain in mind. Drawing on our clinical research, it combines gentle, trauma-informed movement, breath awareness and deep relaxation to help settle the nervous system and build a practice you can sustain.

What does the research say?

Emerging research suggests that mindfulness and other non-drug approaches may help with endometriosis-related pain, although the certainty of the evidence is still limited. Read more in Yoga and Mindfulness for Mental Health: What Does the Research Say?
